Nick’s on 2nd in Eunice destroyed by fire, residents say this is a huge loss for city

EUNICE, La. (KLFY)– Nick’s on 2nd, a longtime favorite restaurant in Eunice, caught on fire Saturday afternoon; some residents said this was a major loss for the community.

Firefighters spent hours putting out a fire that residents said started around 11 a.m. No one was inside at the time of the fire.

David Manuel, a resident of Eunice, owns a hair salon just a block from the restaurant. He said it is devastating for the community, and the owners who worked day and night to keep it going.

“They’re destroyed,” Manuel said. “They work morning till night, every single day.”

Residents said the Nick’s on 2nd building has been there since the early 1920’s, hosting many wedding receptions, high school proms and more. Harlie Lebouef said she knows the employees at the restaurant, where she was given a chance to sing. She said Nick’s on 2nd created memories for all.

“They just never gave up on me,” Lebouef said. “They poured positivity into me. Their waitresses and waiters were just amazing. They’re a staple to the entire community. They’re always positive. They’re always uplifting. Their food is amazing. You couldn’t ask for better in the city.”

Dori Menard, a Eunice native, said she hopes the owners will be able to pick up the pieces and rebuild the historical landmark.

“For all of us or anyone of us who has experienced Nick’s, I really hope that they can build it back up eventually, and we can come together as a community to support the owners especially.”

While residents said this was a major loss for the community, they also said they are thankful for the precious memories that Nick’s has given them.

The cause of the fire is still unknown, but more information will be shared when made available.
