Fire extinguishing balls may not work, leading to risk of fire or death; CPSC

(WHTM) – The United States Consumer Product Safety Commission is warning consumers not to use the Elide brand fire extinguishing balls that can fail to extinguish fires.

The commission says the product “can fail to effectively disperse fire retardant chemicals and fail to extinguish a fire,” leading to serious injury and death.

The extinguishing balls also “fail to meet” requirements for fire extinguishers and do not have a pressure gauge, locking device, nozzle, or self-closing valve.

Elide Fire USA sells three models: ELB01, ELB02-1, and ELB02-2 which come in red and blue colors.

The fire extinguishing balls were sold for $95 and $120 and may come with a wall-mounted stand.

The commission says consumers should only purchase fire extinguishers that meet UL 299 and UL 711 safety standards.
