Fire destroys house, storage building in Bend: officials

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A fire in a storage building which spread to a nearby house prompted response from Bend Fire & Rescue early Sunday morning.

Just before 12:45 a.m., crews responded to a reported structure fire near the 21000 block of Rickard Road. Callers were claiming a barn fire was in danger of spreading to a neighboring home.

On arrival, firefighters found a 1,400 square foot storage building fully engulfed in flames, which had spread to nearby trees and the outside of a small house.

The fire was quickly put out, but the storage building and everything inside were a complete loss, authorities say.

Additionally, while the fire did not significantly damage the inside of the house, it was still found unlivable.

The total damage is estimated to be $200,000, officials say. The exact cause of the fire could not be determined because of the extensive damage.
