Fire at CT condo complex rips through 10 units; two hospitalized

Two people were taken to the hospital following a large fire that ripped through at least 10 condo units in Brookfield early Thursday.

The fire broke out shortly before 1:30 a.m. at the Ledgewood Condo complex on Boxwood Drive, according to the Brookfield Volunteer Fire Department.

Fire crews evacuated the condos to make sure everyone got out safely, fire officials said.

Two people were injured and were taken to an area hospital. Their injuries were not considered life-threatening, according to fire officials.

Firefighters needed tanker trucks to put out the blaze, which took some time to get to the scene, officials said.

According to fire officials, the flames in one unit reached the roof and spread to the other adjoining units. At least 10 condos were destroyed.

The residents who were displaced were taken to a nearby senior center and have been receiving assistance from the American Red Cross.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
