Fire crews battle five-alarm house fire Friday in Templeton: what we know

Multiple departments responded to a five-alarm house fire at 457 Patriots Rd. on Friday afternoon.

The initial call to the Templeton Fire Department, which was received at 3:40 p.m., reported that flames were visible coming out of the front and side first-floor windows of the two-and-a-half story dwelling. Upon arrival, crews observed heavy fire on the first and second floors, with some flames reaching the attic of the home.

After the first crews on the scene were told that some people might possibly have been trapped in the building, a fifth alarm was struck, bringing much-needed additional crews to the scene to search for possible victims and extinguish the flames.

All residents and pets were eventually accounted for, and crews spent over four hours on the scene battling the blaze.

No responder or civilian injuries were reported during the incident.

Fire departments from Athol, Barre, Fitchburg, Gardner, Hubbardston, Phillipston, Royalston, Westminster, and Winchendon responded to the scene, with Ashburnham crews providing coverage at the Templeton station.

The cause of the fire remained under investigation with the District Fire Investigation Unit.
