Findlay has big plans for the Total Solar Eclipse

FINDLAY, Ohio (WJW) — Excitment is viewing for the total solar eclipse, but did you ever think about what it might smell like?

“The scent notes are moon flower ozone and dark musk.” Hand and Home Owner Holly Craycraft said as she showed off some custom-made eclipse candles.

You can then pair that candle with luxurious goat milk eclipse soap and carry it all in a custom eclipse tote bag.

Main Street Findlay is ready for whatever comes from the darkness.

Findlay and Hancock County are in a unique spot along the path of the eclipse.

Hancock County is expecting about 75 thousand people to double or possibly triple its population.

Jellybeanville is back and in the path of totality

Findlay is one of the largest towns in this mostly rural part of Ohio and that poses a unique set of problems.

“Well, if you triple your population and your roads are not able to be passed then we will start looking at how do we relocate resources and distribute them in our community,” Findlay Service-Safety Director Rob Martin said. The city has been planning for the eclipse for almost two years.

Martin said they’re working together to handle possible emergencies and traffic control.

Local businesses are giving people the day off and schools are closed to cut back on traffic on April 8. Martin said every city park is going to be used for viewing along with the county fairgrounds.

‘The gods’ wrath’: The ancient folklore of the eclipse

The boutique Hancock Hotel has its eclipse and has a big party for Sunday April 7.

Dietsch Brothers Fine Chocolate has a special eclipse section next to the easter candy. They have ice cream specials and even a chocolate collection that follows the phases of the moon.

“I’m excited about being born and raised here. It’s nice to show everyone else who we are,” said East Store Manager Natalie Beall.
