Filing period for state, county offices now open

Apr. 3—On Wednesday, six people filed to run for office in upcoming Cleveland County elections.

Incumbent Sheriff Chris Amason, who filed for re-election, will be challenged by Julie Tipton. Tipton spent over 13 years working for the Cleveland County Sheriff's Office, most recently as the Deputy Chief of Detention.

Miranda Alamillo and Pam Howlett filed for County Clerk. Both women have worked in the County Clerk's office for the past 16 years; Howlett is currently the county's Assistant Purchasing Coordinator.

Incumbents Jacob McHughes, the District 2 County Commissioner, and Marilyn Williams, the County Court Clerk, both filed for re-election. No one filed to challenge either candidate on Wednesday.

Every candidate who filed on Wednesday is a registered Republican. The primary election will take place June 18.

The deadline to file for federal, state and county offices is Friday at 5 p.m.
