Section of Highway 74 in Laurinburg may not reopen until sometime Friday following fiery crash

LAURINBURG, N.C. (WBTW) — A section of Highway 74 in Laurinburg could remain closed until sometime Friday following a crash Thursday morning that ignited a large fire under an overpass, the North Carolina Department of Transportation said.

Authorities have not said whether anyone was hurt in the crash, which involved two tractor-trailers and a boat and sent thick, black smoke billowing into the air. An NCDOT spokesperson said late Thursday afternoon that crews were assessing the damage to determine when the road could be safely reopened.
