Few storms Wednesday, warm conditions to continue

Tonight features partly to mostly cloudy skies with temperatures dropping back into the upper 50s. Some patchy instances of fog are possible with a light southwest breeze.

Wednesday brings another cold front toward the region by the end of the day. A few showers that are remnants from a line of thunderstorms will push through during the mid-morning hours and into the early afternoon. We’ll then see plenty of sunshine for the afternoon before the chance for a couple of storms arrives toward the late evening hours with the passage of our cold front. We’ll see high temperatures in the mid to upper 70s. The Storm Prediction Center has once again outlined most of our area under a level one risk for severe weather, with damaging wind gusts and hail being the primary threats.

Thursday sees partly cloudy skies with a brief break in the activity. It’s a pleasant day on the way, with high temperatures in the mid 70s.

Friday provides another threat for scattered showers and thunderstorms with yet another cold front pushing on through. There will be plenty of dry time still, but it’ll be cooler with highs around 70.

Saturday is trending drier! A morning sprinkle or two is possible, with sunshine returning for the afternoon. High temperatures will be a bit cooler, with highs in the low 60s.

Sunday is much drier with just a brief morning shower before the sunshine returns in full force for the afternoon. However, we will see much cooler conditions with a northwest flow as a result of a strong area of high pressure to our west. As a result, it’s a cooler day, with highs in the mid 50s.

Monday brings back the chance for a couple of showers with a trough scooting by. Temperatures will remain a little on the cool side with high temperatures around 60.

Tuesday continues our risk for showers and perhaps a few rumbles of thunder with a frontal system pushing through, we’ll see highs in the low to mid 60s.

Looking ahead, it’s a slightly cooler and slightly less active pattern ahead. Wednesday features a couple of isolated showers with high temperatures in the mid 60s. Thursday sees our temperatures warm up a bit more into the mid to upper 60s under mostly sunny skies. Friday brings back the chance for a few showers with temperatures still in the 60s for highs.

We are in spring forest fire season in West Virginia – this means don’t burn between 7 AM and 5 PM through May 31st. Low humidity values during the daytime, along with breezier and warmer conditions will at times increase the fire threat, hence the burn ban during most of the daytime. Follow all regulations or be faced with potential consequences, such as fines! In Virginia, the spring fire season continues through April 30th – don’t burn before 4 PM.
