The Ferrari Portofino is the New Entry-Level Model Set to Replace the California

When Ferrari debuted their California model in 2008, many car-enthusiasts were excited. Not only was the design sleek, but the price was (relatively) cheap. With a base price around $200,000, the Ferrari California was the Italian automakers least expensive model. Yet, some complained that the first few years of production were uninspiring, as the car lacked in what made a Ferrari a Ferrari: power and speed. Fast forward (or downshift) nearly a decade, and the luxury carmaker has unveiled the Ferrari Portofino, its new entry level model that will replace the California.

The Ferrari Portofino, which is named after a beautiful Italian fishing village near Genoa, will boast a 3.8-liter, turbocharged V8 engine which has roughly 590 horsepower (slightly less than the 2017 Audi R8). That type of power will zip this vehicle from zero to sixty m.p.h. in less than 3.5 seconds.

For most cars, entry-level models typically means bottom of the barrel features and amenities. That's not the case for the Ferrari Portofino. Not only can it hit speeds of up to 200 m.p.h., but the car has electric power steering (a feature the California model did not have). What's more, the car is a convertible, which makes the body lighter than its predecessor.

The Ferrari Portofino will make its official world debut at the upcoming Frankfurt International Motor Show in September.
