FedEx driver accused of crashing delivery truck into Houma home

HOUMA, La. (WGNO) — The Houma Police Department is investigating after a delivery truck crashed into a home on Tuesday, March 26.
According to officers, around 4:17 p.m. they were called to the scene of a crash on Mary Hughes Drive. Upon arrival, Houma police say they found a FedEx truck crashed into a home.

An investigation revealed that the truck, driven by 31-year-old Michael Smith, reportedly left the road and crashed into the front of the home.
While the residents were home at the time of the crash, there were no injuries reported.
Through further investigation, officers say they learned Smith was allegedly impaired through a failed field sobriety test.
According to the HPD, “Smith was found to be in possession of an open alcoholic beverage, marijuana and Tramadol.”

Smith was arrested and officers say as they attempted to bring him to the unit, he allegedly refused to get in and cooperate. He was taken to the HPD, where he reportedly failed to cooperate and refused to submit and breath test.
Houma police said a warrant was later issued to obtain a blood test to determine his intoxication.
Smith was booked into the Terrebonne Parish Criminal Justice Complex on charges of:
Possession of Marijuana
Possession of Alcoholic Beverages in a Motor Vehicle
Possession of Schedule IV narcotic
Reckless operation of a Motor Vehicle
DWI 1st
Resisting an Officer
