UPDATE: FBI concludes Urbana apartment raid

UPDATE 1:00 p.m.

URBANA, Ill. (WCIA) — The FBI raid at the Town and Country Apartments in Urbana has concluded as of around 1 p.m.

A WCIA reporter on-scene said the FBI officers were yelling for someone to come out of the apartment for about an hour over a loudspeaker. At one point, a woman was handcuffed for a while but law enforcement eventually let her back into her apartment.

Around 1 p.m., the FBI left the apartments. Nothing was taken from the scene. A large gathering of people outside the apartments watched the events unfold.

Authorities are unable to share more information at this time.

CHAMPAIGN COUNTY, Ill. (WCIA) — A pair of police presences in Urbana and Rantoul have been linked to federal law enforcement activity.

Police and FBI agents were spotted at Birdie and Fairway Drives in Rantoul early Tuesday morning. Later in the morning, FBI agents were seen at Town and Country Apartments in Urbana. Rantoul and Urbana Police said they could not comment on what was happening, instead directing WCIA to the FBI and DEA.

Public information officers from both federal agencies confirmed the law enforcement presences were due to a joint enforcement operation in the Champaign-Urbana area, involving multiple arrest and search warrants. The federal agencies are working with local partners.

Due to the ongoing nature of the investigation, neither agency could comment further. More information, they said, will come from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Central District of Illinois.

This is a developing story. Stay tuned for updates.
