Fayetteville man arrested for hitting baby that later died pleads not guilty to battery; more charges possible

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — A Fayetteville man arrested for hitting a baby multiple times that later died pleaded not guilty to battery on Wednesday, according to court documents.

Benjamin Vinson, 43, was arrested on Feb. 14 by the Washington County Sheriff’s Office on a first-degree domestic battery charge, according to his booking.

However, more charges could be on the way for Vinson, according to Washington County Chief Deputy Prosecutor Denis Dean.

Autopsy results could mean more charges for Fayetteville man

Dean said on Feb. 21 that WCSO had home security video of Vinson hitting a two-month-old baby several times at a Fayetteville home.

Vinson went to sleep and awoke to find the baby dead, according to Dean.

Dean said the baby’s body was sent to the Arkansas State Crime Lab and the office is waiting on the cause of death before deciding if more charges are warranted.

Vinson’s trial date has been set for September 20.
