1 dead in San Jose hit-and-run crash Wednesday, juvenile in custody

SAN JOSE, Calif. (KRON) — A juvenile was taken into custody in connection to a fatal hit-and-run collision between two vehicles early Wednesday morning, according to the San Jose Police Department.

The crash occurred in the area of Nieman Boulevard and Elkins Way at around 4:12 a.m., police said. A white pickup truck and a black car appeared to be involved in the deadly collision. The black car was a 2017 Chevy Camaro, according to SJPD.

The Camaro, which was traveling at a high rate of speed, failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection of Nieman and Daniel Maloney Drive and struck the pickup, a white Nissan Frontier.

One person died in the truck, KRON4’s Charles Clifford reported from the scene.

SJPD patrol officers later located a juvenile believed to be the driver of the Camaro. The juvenile was taken into custody. The investigation is ongoing, police said.

Multiple street closures were in effect in the Kettman-Pomeroy neighborhood near John J. Montgomery Elementary School as police investigated the scene. Motorists were advised to use alternate routes. Area roadways were reopened around 11:20 a.m.

The victim’s identity will be released by the Santa Clara County Coroner’s Office following confirmation of identity and notification of next of kin.

The incident marked San Jose’s 12th fatal collision and 12th traffic death of 2024.
