Reward: Fatal fire in Canton ruled arson

CANTON, Ohio (WJW) – The Ohio State Fire Marshal has ruled a fatal fire in Canton as arson. Investigators with Fire and Explosion Investigation Bureau are now seeking tips from the public to help identify those responsible.

According to investigators, “video captured by witnesses show multiple persons of interest fleeing the scene at the time of the fire.”

Now, a reward of $5,000 is being offered by the Blue Ribbon Arson Committee for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the State Fire Marshal’s tip line at 800-589-2728. Callers can remain anonymous, and all tips will be thoroughly investigated.

The fire started just before 1:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 1, 2024, at 200 Lincoln Avenue NW.

Fire crews reported heavy fire in the front of the two-and-a-half-story house. As crews entered the home, they said the body of an adult male was found behind the front door.

According to officials, the home was heavily damaged and will likely need to be razed.

Investigators report evidence found on the scene indicates that the fire was intentionally set.
