Fatal crash closes southbound lanes of Dale Mabry Highway in Tampa

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — A fatal crash is causing delays on a popular Tampa highway Wednesday afternoon.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a crash involving a motorcyclist and a truck occurred around 12:58 p.m. on Dale Mabry Highway, just south of Waters Avenue.

Officials said a 25-year-old New Jersey man on a Suzuki motorcycle was traveling southbound on Dale Mabry Highway.

At the same time, a 59-year-old Tampa man, along with his 52-year-old passenger in a Toyota pickup truck, was traveling northbound on Dale Mabry, when the driver went to make a left turn into the entrance of a Walmart.

The driver entered the direct path of the motorcyclist and struck the man.

The motorcyclist died at the scene of the crash. The pair in the truck were not hurt.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said the southbound lanes of Dale Mabry near Waters Avenue are closed.

Officials are asking drivers to seek alternate routes as they investigate the crash.
