Fans excited to have Nationals at home

WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — The Washington Nationals open the home portion of their schedule as they host Pittsburgh on Monday afternoon at Nationals Park.

“I’m excited,” said Jasmine Wooten. “The Nationals going to knock it out of the park.”

The home opener also brings renewed optimism.

“Well, I’m excited to see the young players and I want to see how they develop,” said Rick Short.

It also means fans finally get to see a home game for the first time since the end of last season, which saw the Nationals finish with a 71-91 record, last in the National League East.

“They’ve made some good moves. I’m looking forward to seeing the team and how they come together,” said Alex Sargent. “Last year was obviously a little challenging, but I’m looking forward to seeing what they can, you know, do on the field this year.”

Waiting for the Nationals to play has not been easy for some fans.

“It’s been a little hard, but you know what? It’s okay,” said Ariel Marbly. “I’ve been kind of leeching on to other players and other teams for a while.”

While the Nationals expect a large crowd for the home opener, not every fan expects to be in the stands.

“We’ll see. I’m thinking about it, but I got to see what ticket prices are looking like,” Short said.

One big change for fans is that night games have been moved up by 20 minutes to 6:45 p.m. to accommodate more families.

Monday’s game is scheduled to start at 4:05 p.m.
