Say all you want about He Who Must Not Be Named, but you can’t deny that you’re still yearning to unlock more of his backstory. Thankfully, a group of fans made an origin film themselves. And boy (who lived), you’re in for a treat! Tryangle Films created a 52-minute movie chronicling Tom Riddle’s early life and Voldemort’s rise to power, and honestly, it’s so good it might as well be a spinoff. (And, dare we say it, might be better than Order of the Phoenix??)

Aptly called Voldemort: Origins of the Heir, the film follows a non-canon character, Grisha McLaggen, the heir of Gryffindor, who is trying to solve the murder of Hepzibah Smith. Potterheads would remember that Tom Riddle Avada Kedavra’d Smith so he could seize her powerful artifacts, which he then used to create his infamous Horcruxes. In an effort to put an end to Riddle’s evil antics, McLaggen tries to take back all the items he stole. As for what happens next…

Well, you’ll just have to watch:

The entire movie is in English, with other subtitles available — French, Italian, Portuguese, and Spanish — so Potterheads across the globe can revel in the film. Oh, and did we mention that you can stream it for free? Talk about something magical.

So while we patiently wait for an actual Voldemort origin story — looking at you, J.K. Rowling — we’ll be here enjoying this magical fan-made creation, which has now earned a permanent spot during our regular (read: frequent) Harry Potter marathons.
