Family of six in Roanoke County displaced after house fire caused about $250K in damage

ROANOKE COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — The Roanoke County Fire Marshal is working to learn what caused a family’s home to go up in flames on Sunday evening.

The Roanoke County Fire & Rescue Department says at 5:12 p.m. on April 14, crews were called to the 6400 block of Pinetree Lane for a house fire. While en route, first responders could see heavy smoke coming from the North County area.

The fire department says once on the scene, crews found heavy flames and smoke pouring from the home. The blaze was brought under control within 30 minutes.

Three people were home during the fire and were able to escape safely. First responders say one person was treated at the scene, but did not need to be taken to the hospital.

Fire officials confirmed that six people lived in the house. The family will be displaced and is being assisted by the American Red Cross.

During the investigation, the Fire Marshal estimated damages to be about $250,000.
