Family seeks justice after man shot, killed while driving car in North Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) – A Las Vegas mother desperate for answers after her son was shot and killed in his car, spoke with 8 News Now exclusively on Friday.

“All he’s going to do is smile,” Vera Bennett said of her son. “That’s Deuce.”

Darreal ‘Deuce’ Biddle-Bennett is being remembered by those who loved him a week after his life was suddenly cut short.

“My brother had a heart,” his sister, Lillian Bennett-Biddle said. “He loved everybody.”

According to North Las Vegas Police, the 23-year-old was shot while driving his car on Carey Avenue near Commerce Street just after 6:00 p.m. on March 12.

“One of my nephews just called me,” Bennett recalled. “And said ‘Auntie, Deuce just got shot.'”

Officers said Biddle-Bennett drove his car into a wall after the shooting and died at the scene.

Vera Bennett described the moment she saw what happened that day.

“The car was against the wall,” she said. “He was lying down on the ground.”

Officers are still searching for the shooter, who they said was in another car and drove away.

Bennett told 8 News Now more than anything, she wants justice for her son.

“I don’t want to see nobody else get hurt on the streets,” she said.

Meanwhile, Bennett and her entire family have been out nearly every day doing what they can to raise money for Biddle-Bennett’s funeral and cremation expenses.

They have held multiple car washes, and sold shirts, pins, keychains, and food; all to make the $15,000 they need before the service in April.

“It’s like hell,” Lillian Bennett-Biddle said of the situation. “It’s like losing a best friend.”

The group told 8 News Now they hope by sharing their story, they can encourage anyone who might know anything to come forward and help them find closure.

“He didn’t deserve this,” Bennett concluded, speaking about her son.

The family has raised $9,000 so far, therefore they still need to come up with $6,000 before the services on April 5.

A GoFundMe account has been set up to assist the family.
