Family honors Seth Truax one year after his death

ELMIRA, N.Y. (WETM) – On April 16, family and friends came together to honor a young man who was killed on Clemens Center Parkway last year.

According to police, one year ago on April 16, 2023, 22-year-old Seth Truax was hit by a car at the intersection of Clemens Center Parkway and East 5th Street. An ambulance rushed Truax to Arnot Hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

As family and friends of Truax began to grieve his sudden loss, they also began calling for changes on the road where he was hit and killed. A full 365 days later, the family is still calling for action.

“I want justice on Clemens Center, and I don’t think any justice has been done at all,” said Angelica Perry, Truax’s stepmother. “We heard change was supposed to come, but we’re still asking the city where the change is.”

“Nothing is getting solved, no problems are getting fixed,” said Bobby Jo Cardona, Truax’s mother. “My son was a good kid, a kid any parent would have wanted to have.”

The family said this past year has been full of ups and downs. They had the first birthday celebration for Truax without him, which they say was extremely difficult.

“He was always in church, always in the house,” Perry said about her stepson. “He was always doing something for the community or doing something for somebody.”

The Elmira Police Department confirmed in August 2023 that no charges would come against the driver who hit and killed Truax. Police say that the investigation was completed and turned over to the Chemung County District Attorney’s Office, which ultimately decided not to file charges.
