Falmouth election results: Heather Goldstone wins Select Board seat. What else happened?

After votes were counted Tuesday evening, the town of Falmouth announced Heather Goldstone won the race for the sole open Select Board seat for the next three years with a total tally of 2,887, according to the town clerk’s office.

Goldstone defeated her second-place opponent, Thomas Zine — who garnered a total vote count of 2,038 — by 849 votes. The third-place candidate, Richard Duby, got 569 votes.

About 18% of Falmouth voters cast their ballots in the annual town election, with 5,797 of the town’s 27,000 voters turning out, according to the town clerk’s office.

In the race for three School Committee seats, incumbent Kelly Ashton Welch won reelection alongside Glenda Marie Cohen and Katarina Singsen Nevin. Welch won a majority of the vote totals with 3,848, followed by Cohen with 3,213 and Nevin with 3,008. Candidate Christopher Mathews, who did not win a seat, garnered 2,909 votes.

The Proposition 2 1/2 override ballot question passed with 4,048 in favor and 1,266 opposed. The ballot question asked voters to allow Falmouth to pay for the bonds required to pay for the “engineering, design and replacement of the North Falmouth Elementary School roof.”

The work would cover a wide scope of repairs, as well as an architectural, engineering and HVAC evaluation of cost for the future addition of air conditioning and possible addition of solar energy panels.
