Falls DPW workers come to the rescue of cat stuck in tree

Apr. 24—A cat stuck in a tree for the past few days was rescued by Niagara Falls DPW Forestry Department workers on Wednesday.

The 1-year-old feline, Zora, had been up in a tree in the 600 block alley between 15th Street and Tronolone Place after running out of a house and chasing a squirrel. After days of trying to get her down with no success, the owner contacted Niagara Falls Police Animal Control for assistance. Members of the Niagara Falls Fire Department were unable to help due to the cat's location so a call was placed to DPW to see if they would be able to assist.

As the day winded down for the forestry department, a crew comprised of the head of the city Parks Department, John Murphy, foreman Willie Mills and Tara Campbell and Chase Langer responded to the alleyway with a boom truck.

Campbell got into the bucket of the boom truck and maneuvered it as close and she could to the tree. As the bucket approached the tree, Zora was visibly eager to get out of the tree. Campbell grabbed Zora without any issues and brought her down safely. Zora was handed to Langer, who haded Zora to her owner.
