Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) sparked a fracas at a House hearing Thursday night when she insulted Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) for her “fake eyelashes.”

At one point during a House Oversight Committee markup of a contempt of Congress citation against Attorney General Merrick Garland, for not releasing audio of President Joe Biden’s interview with special counsel Robert Hur, Greene attempted to turn the subject to Donald Trump’s hush money criminal trial in New York.

“I'd like to know if any of the Democrats on this committee are employing Judge Merchan’s daughter,” Greene said, referencing conservative conspiracy theories that the judge in Trump’s trial is compromised because of his daughter, who Republicans accuse of hating Trump.

Crockett: “Please tell me what that has to do with Merrick Garland. … Do you know what we're here for? You know we're here about [attorney general]?”

Greene: “I don't think you know what you're here for.”

Crockett: “Well, you’re the one talking about —”

Greene: “I think your fake eyelashes are messing up what you're reading.”

Crockett later in the hearing responded to Greene by making comments about a “bleached blonde, bad built, butch body,” seemingly a shot at Greene, which caused Crockett and Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL) to get into a heated argument.

Democrats have blamed Greene for the chaos that ensued at the hearing, with Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) calling her comments racist and misogynistic.
