Expressway ramp will close for year

Apr. 26—THOMASVILLE — Crews for the N.C. Department of Transportation will close a ramp at the Old Thomasville Road exit of Interstate 85 Business for a year beginning Monday.

The work is part of upgrades to the bridge, intersection and segments of Business I-85, formally known now as U.S. 29-70. The exit ramp from U.S. 29 North/U.S. 70 East to Old Thomasville Road will close for approximately 12 months.

Motorists will follow the signed detour and exit onto Prospect Street at the next interchange. Motorists will then use U.S. 29 South/U.S. 70 West exit to return to Old Thomasville Road.

All construction on the bridge replacement project is expected to be complete in 2026, the DOT reports.
