Explore Outdoors | Mammoth art takes you back to the Ice Age

A drive along Highway 99 to explore south of Modesto and Turlock could have some drivers wondering if they are traveling back in time to the last Ice Age. That's because the animal silhouettes appearing to cross over the freeway near Merced look like nothing currently roaming the earth. Instead, those are the silhouettes of 10-ton, 13-feet-tall Colombian Mammoths that date back more than 100,000 years ago.
