Ex-Nissan exec back after three years detention in Japan

Good morning, friends. I'm Tennessean storytelling columnist Brad Schmitt, with a wild story of accusations of wrongdoing at Nissan that left a Brentwood man detained in Japan for three years.

Business writer Arcelia Martin was at Nashville International Airport Monday when ex-Nissan exec Greg Kelly came back after those three long years.

A Japanese court convicted Kelly of underreporting his boss' pay. It's a charge Kelly flatly denies and one his U.S. allies said should've been worked out in a boardroom instead of a courtroom.

It took U.S. diplomats and senators from both parties to get Japan to agree to release Kelly pending an appeal.

"I mean it's like Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz," Kelly said at the airport. "There's no place like home."

Thank you for reading The Tennessean.
