Ex-Fabius Township supervisor sentenced for 2010 sexual assault

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) — The former Fabius Township supervisor could spend up to 50 years behind bars for sexually assaulting a woman in 2010, the Michigan Attorney General’s Office said.

Kenneth Dwayne Linn, 58, of Three Rivers, was sentenced to 19 to 50 years in prison Tuesday. He was found guilty last month of four counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct.

The sexual assault happened in 2010, when Linn volunteered to bring home an “extremely intoxicated” employee from a golf course outing in St. Joseph County. She had been drinking with him and others, the AG’s office said. Linn sexually assaulted the woman in a Portage home and she suffered physical injury, according to the AG’s office.

“She was physically helpless due to extreme intoxication and unable to give consent,” the Michigan Department of Attorney General wrote in a release.

The department says an exam was performed one day after the assault, but it was not tested until years later. The cold case was taken up by the Kalamazoo County SAKI team, which is dedicated to following up on untested rape kits.

Linn was charged in October of 2022, and the trial began March 12, 2024, according to the attorney general’s office.

The victim read a statement at Linn’s sentencing.

“No amount of time will erase the scars that he left behind. There is no going back to who I was before. I will always feel the need to protect myself. I will always be extra-cautious because I know I’m vulnerable. But I won’t let the fear stop me from living a happy life, it just means I do it differently now,” the victim read, according to a release from the AG’s office.
