Evie Mae's barbecue to leave south Lubbock United Supermarket location in May

United Supermarkets on Tuesday announced its partnership with local barbecue restaurant Evie Mae's will end next month.

"We thank Arnis and Mallor for the partnership we have enjoyed the past three years and wish them much success with their current location and future endeavors," said Sindey Hopper, president of the United Supermarkets Division, in a statement.

Evie Mae's opened at the United Supermarkets on 114th Street and Slide Road in 2021. At the time, United leadership told the Avalanche-Journal that the store would represent the "next generation" of United Supermarkets stores offering a restaurant like Evie Mae's.

United stated that Evie Mae's decision to part ways came after "thoughtful deliberation" about the business, which wanted to prioritize its core business and independent expansion.

Starting May 22, United stated that the location would continue to offer barbecue under the name of "Smok'd Pit Barbecue" which will also be featured in its new locations in Amarillo and Rio Rancho, New Mexico.
