Evesham district wants to reopen shuttered grade school; here’s the plan

The Florence V. Evans Elementary School could reopen in September 2027 according to the Evesham Township School District.

The school was shuttered years ago and leased out as part of a cost-savings plan. But the state recently made tuition-free pre-school and kindergarten a priority, so the district moved to reopen the school for its needs.

While this will not cost taxpayers any additional money to pay to send their kids to Evans, there is a long process before the school can fully open in 2027.

Later this spring, the district will review and either accept or reject the revised plan for moving forward with their application.

If the plan is approved, the first step in the transition will be to make half-day pre-school full day, a requirement for the program and to receive funds for schooling, starting in January 2025.

During that summer, renovations will make room for six classrooms to be opened at the Teddy Bear Academy. Two more additional classrooms will be opened where space is available.

In the following year, two more classrooms will open and starting in September of 2027, the Evans School will be reopened for and pre-school and kindergarten students.

Eventually, Evans will house students through fifth grade, growing each year as the inaugural class moves up.

The plan does not call for moving current students into Evans.
