An evacuation alert for parts of Old Crow, Yukon, has been lifted as the Porcupine River continues drop after peaking last weekend. Officials say the community is no longer at risk of major flooding.

An alert had still been in place for parts of the community, while other parts of Old Crow saw their evacuation alerts lifted earlier this week. The advisory rescinded on Friday morning means there are no longer any evacuation alerts in place for Old Crow.

The flood watch that was in place for the Porcupine River was also downgraded on Friday morning, to a high streamflow advisory.

The territorial government says the river level peaked last Sunday and has been dropping since then. However, it says high streamflow is expected until more snow in the Porcupine River basin melts.

"Although the snowpack in the headwaters has seen considerable melt, a substantial amount of snow remains throughout the basin," reads the government's online flood atlas.

It says warmer weather is expected in the region early next week and that could slow the river's recession. Rain showers could also have an impact.
