Here are Indy 500 fans' options as they're ordered to evacuate stands, Snake Pit

Indy 500 fans in the grandstands and the Snake Pit have been directed to evacuate as a storm is expected to reach Indianapolis Motor Speedway between noon and 12:30 p.m.

They can decide to return to their cars, remain elsewhere in the venue or go elsewhere, IMS President Doug Boles said Sunday morning.Once the threat of lightning has passed, fans will be allowed to return should they desire.

About 125,000 people are currently in the speedway, Boles said at a press conference at 10:45 a.m.

"Please exist grandstands and seek shelter immediately," said the announcement in the stands. "We have lightning in the area."

IMS spokesperson Amanda Stanley recommended that fans stay updated on any announcements by following the speedway's social media accounts and downloading its app. The app is available on the Apple App Store and on Google Play.

The speedway also has a text alert system for updates, which people can join by texting "Indy500" to 67283.The National Weather Service's Indianapolis office regularly updates its X feed with forecasts, alerts and other local weather information. Follow them @NWSIndianapolis.
