Records from the Michigan Department of Corrections show that Crumbley now resides at Oaks Correctional Facility in Manistee.

The prison, which opened in 1992, holds Level II and Level IV offenders. Crumbley is considered a Level II.

The 18-year-old will spend the rest of his life behind bars after pleading guilty to several charges related to the attack, including first-degree murder and terrorism.

He was only 15 at the time of the attack on Nov. 30, 2021. Crumbley opened fire at Oxford High School, killing four students, injuring six others and a teacher.

Life sentences for teenagers are rare in Michigan, especially since the courts ruled that crimes committed by minors are viewed differently than crimes committed by adults.

Judge Kwame Rowe ruled last December that he would reject requests from defense lawyers for a shorter sentence, saying “the court cannot ignore the deep trauma caused to the state of Michigan and the Oxford community.”

Ethan’s father, James Crumbley, and his mother, Jennifer, were the first parents to be held criminally responsible for a school shooting. They were both sentenced to at least 10 years in prison earlier this month. James Crumbley is housed at the Bellamy Creek Correctional Facility in Ionia. Jennifer Crumbley is housed at the Women’s Huron Valley Correctional Facility in Ypsilanti.
