Escambia County EMS recognized for their contributions during EMS Week

ESCAMBIA COUNTY, Fla. (WKRG) — May 19-25 is National Emergency Medical Services Week, a time to recognize and celebrate “the important contributions of EMS professionals in safeguarding the health, safety, and well-being of their communities,” and this week the Escambia Board of County Commissioners recognized Escambia County EMS.

According to a release, the Escambia Board of County Commissioners recognized “the hard-working men and women who make up Escambia County’s Emergency Medical Services Division” at their meeting on Monday.

To show the work Escambia EMS does for the community, the release highlighted their contributions:

  • From Jan. 1 through Dec. 31, 2023, Escambia County EMS responded to 81,329 calls, which is an increase of 7,269 calls from the previous year.

  • Available 24 hours per day, 365 days a year.

  • Provide critical care, advanced life support, basic life support, and bariatric transports to residents and visitors

“Daily, the men and women of Escambia County EMS rise to the many challenges they face, even if it means spending countless hours away from their families and friends,” the release said. “During EMS Week, Escambia County has the opportunity to recognize local EMS heroes for their unwavering commitment to serving their community.”

Officials also echoed the hard work Escambia County EMS puts into helping the community:

“The men and women of Escambia County EMS work tirelessly day-in and day-out to provide life-saving services to our citizens and visitors, as evident by more than 81,000 calls for service,” Deputy Chief Chris Stephens said. “Their dedication and compassion to the life of another goes above and beyond, and I’m fortunate to work alongside this excellent group of professionals.”
