Eric Seddens gets long prison term for killing the mother of his child

CAMDEN — A city man has received a 70-year prison term for killing a former girlfriend while on parole for an earlier attack on her.

Eric Seddens, 41, was sentenced May 17 for the death of 33-year-old Ashley Allen of Sicklerville, according to the Camden County Prosecutor's Office.

Allen, the mother of four, was shot in the head at 8th and Walnut streets in Camden shortly before midnight on Sept. 29, 2020, the prosecutor's office said.

Seddens left Allen lying face-down in the street, then fled in her vehicle to Philadelphia. He took a bus to Clearwater, Florida, where he lived in a motel under a false name.

Seddens, who had a child with Allen, was arrested about two weeks after the shooting.

Seddens, previously convicted of aggravated assault against Allen, had been paroled two months before the woman's homicide.

Domestic violence victim recalled as 'affectionate, fun-loving'

An obituary described Allen, the mother of four, as "an affectionate fun-loving person who loved to spend time with her family."

She attended classes in the Winslow school district, then earned her high school diploma and certified nursing aide (CNA) certification through the Job Corps program.

"Being a CNA was second nature for Ashley and she excelled at it," the obituary said.

Allen also was "an emerging self-taught nail technician," who hoped to open an online fashion and beauty boutique, it said.

A jury convicted Seddens of aggravated manslaughter in March.

He must serve almost 61 years of his sentence before parole eligibility.
