Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire may not have stolen the hearts of critics, but it sure did steal the hearts of audiences who dropped $80 million at the domestic box office during the film's opening weekend.

And it seems, as long as audiences are buying tickets, studios are keen to keep investing in the MonsterVerse.

Chairman of Worldwide Production for Josh Grode's Legendary, Mary Parent, told The Hollywood Reporter, "We are in a good position to continue the journey".

The Godzilla x Kong director teased a sequel not long ago, saying, "I do have more story to tell with these monsters", but "It just depends on how [Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire] does".

Parent echoed those sentiments to The Hollywood Reporter, saying, "These are early days, but we are certainly feeling good."

Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire is still making bank at the box office.

Having been out for less than two weeks, the film has made $136.3 million at the domestic box office and a further $226.6 million internationally for a worldwide total of $362.9 million.

The film's predecessor, Godzilla vs. Kong, made $470.1 million at the box office during its 2021 release, which coincided with the pandemic.

Now, it looks as though the success of Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire has set the wheels in motion for the MonsterVerse to continue.
