Though it's known for the red carpet, the purpose of the Met Gala goes a bit deeper. The Met Gala is an annual charity fundraising event benefitting the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Led by Vogue’s editor-in-chief, Anna Wintour, the benefit takes place in New York City with designers and celebrities from all over the world flying into the Big Apple to attend. The attendees create and wear elaborate designs dedicated to the special theme of the new display in the museum, selected by Wintour herself.

Yes, contrary to popular belief, there is a difference between the Met Gala theme and the Met Gala dress code, thought they are closely linked. Connected to the “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion” theme, the dress code for the red carpet and event is “The Garden of Time.” Usually people conflate the theme and the dress code, and nowadays, saying someone is ”on theme" or “nailed the theme” is synonymous with sticking to the dress code.
Who is going to the Met Gala 2024?
