Enquirer readers choose final Student of the Week winners for the 2023-2024 school year

Cincinnati Enquirer readers showed up to choose the final Students of the Week for the 2023-2024 school year, for the period ending May 12.

Here are the May 17 winners.

Academic Excellence Award

Abhinav Goel, Walnut Hills

He excels both within and outside Walnut Hills High School.

He has a weighted 5.47 GPA and is taking five AP courses as a junior. Over the last three years, he received high honors on the national Latin Exam.

His interest in engineering is clear: He is the team captain of the Walnut Hills First Tech Challenge Robotics Team “The Nuts,” which placed fifth at the 2022-2023 World Championship. He is the Junior Engineering Technical Society (JETS) Club captain and a General Electric Next Engineers Academy member. He also is the competition director of The Walnut Hills Programming Club (Chapter of INTERalliance).

Leadership is also part of his identity as a Student Council representative and treasurer, where he has helped plan over 20 school and community events. He recruited a team of over 20 students to discuss methods to raise money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, where he is aiming to raise $20,000 this year.

Art & Soul Award

She has blossomed on the stage this year in three productions.

She performed in the fall play, Ken Ludwig's Baskerville: A Sherlock Holmes Mystery. She also directed, wrote, and performed a few skits for the New York City Showcase, the winter performance. She showed her talents musically and theatrically in the final play of the year, The Sound of Music.

In that play, she performed as Elsa Schraeder. Her talents were showcased in all of her time at NDA. Most importantly, her love for the arts and her enthusiasm to utilize her God-given talents were shown to others. According to her nomination, "She will be missed as she graduates and moves on to make a difference in the world."

Spirit Award

Alexa Lane, Lebanon

Lane, the 2024 class and student body president, volunteered at the Lebanon Food Pantry, Shoes for the Shoeless and with the Lebanon Athletic Boosters.

She has served as a youth basketball coach and a Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership junior facilitator. Lane, who has a 4.3 GPA, is earning college credit through Sinclair Community College and is holding down a part-time job.

She’s also active in the Spanish National Honors Society, Student Visionary of the Year team, National Honors Society, Future Business Leaders of America, the track team, Youth Suicide Prevention Council and Hope Squad.
