Mercedes-Benz offers the E-class in two potencies-the E300 is motivated by a turbo four-cylinder while E400 4Matic models come with a twin-turbo V-6 and all-wheel drive. The V-6 is the one to get; it's smooth, quiet, and powerful, all of which earned the E400 a place on our 10Best Cars list for 2018.

What's New for 2018?

Last year's E-class sedan was only available with a 241-hp turbo four-cylinder, but this year the 329-hp twin-turbo V-6 from the E-class coupe, convertible, and station wagon is available, and those models wear the E400 designation on their stately trunk lids. We haven't yet tested the V-6 in sedan form but found it powerful and silky-smooth in the other three E-class body styles-and we expect similar performance in the sedan. The E400 4Matic coupe delivered a 5.0-second sprint from zero to 60 mph, while the heavier wagon managed the same test in 5.1 seconds.
