Monday, Public issued a release saying that the company Amy’s Kitchen began a voluntary recall for three versions of its Enchilada Verde Whole Meal, each with different best-by dates.

According to the release, Amy’s Kitchen learned that the meals could have possibly contaminated with listeria due to a cheese from Rizo-López Foods Inc. that was used to make the products.

The affected meals, which are available at both regular Publix locations and GreenWise Markets, have best before dates of April 2024, August 2024, and October 2024.

Rizo-López Foods informed Amy’s Kitchen of the potential for listeria after its products were connected with a listeria outbreak that got 26 people sick and killed two of them. The investigation was first published by the CDC in February.

So far, no illnesses have been reported by Amy’s Kitchen’s enchiladas.

Listeria monocytogenes can cause healthy people to suffer “high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea,” according to the CDC. However, in those with weak immune systems, the infection can be fatal.

If you have purchased the affected meals, throw them away immediately.
