Vinny Dingle has been left clinging to life in an Emmerdale cliffhanger.

Shocking scenes played out in Thursday's (April 18) double bill episode when Tom viciously attacked Vinny for spending time with Belle.

Tom was supposed to be on a business trip with Vanessa Woodfield, though viewers saw he was more concerned with spying on Belle at home using the 'doggie camera' he'd installed.

He grew furious seeing Vinny visiting Belle for a doggie date, getting more and more angry by the minute over his wife and her friend enjoying themselves.

Tom's anger finally boiled over after watching Belle assure Vinny that he would make someone a "brilliant boyfriend" someday.

"You're kind, you're caring and you're funny. What more could a girl want?" Belle assured him.

When Vinny noticed the doggie camera was recording their conversation, Belle went to turn it off and jokingly promised she'd give him some "lessons in love".

Instead of attending his conference, Tom set off back to the village, arriving just as Belle and Vinny took the dogs for a walk in the woods.

Belle was annoyed that her mobile phone had lost service, so Vinny offered to take it and see if he could fix it. This only made Tom angrier as he couldn't connect to the secret tracker he'd put on the device.

Later, Vinny was working on trying to fix Belle's phone when Tom snuck into the trailer and knocked him out from behind.

Tom stood over Vinny's lifeless body as the episode came to an end — but viewers can feel some relief as spoilers for next week have shown that Vinny does survive this attack.

However, Vinny will be badly wounded and bruised as a result Tom's vicious beating. Will the search for the culprit expose Tom's coercive control of Belle?

Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX.
