Emma Watson, Kerry Washington, and Others Team Up to Send a Message to Working Women

From Cosmopolitan

According to research by LeanIn.org and McKinsey, women will have to wait another century before we achieve gender parity in corporate leadership across the country. That's not OK.

"We can't wait that long for change, which is why women have to act now. When we support each other, we help level the playing field and get to equality more quickly," said Sheryl Sandberg, COO of Facebook and founder of LeanIn.org, in a press release announcing the PSA. "When women work together, we accomplish amazing things."

That's why LeanIn.org enlisted celebrities like Emma Watson, Serena Williams, Kerry Washington, and Lena Dunham to talk about the role female mentors and colleagues have had in their success. Emma Watson credits director Sofia Coppola as a mentor. "She supported my work and made me believe that I could do more," the actress said.

"One of the most heartening parts of this past year, for me, has been the outpouring of support I've received from women," said Fox News anchor Megyn Kelly, who was subjected to vicious, misogynistic tirades from Donald Trump throughout the campaign season.

The campaign also emphasizes that women shouldn't see each other as competition in male-dominated settings. As Lena says, "The idea that another woman was in some way taking what belonged to you - that whole idea is kind of shifting."

Along with the video, produced in partnership with AOL's MAKERS, LeanIn.Org has published advice for how women can support each other in their lives and at work. You can also join the conversation by sharing stories of how women have empowered you by using hashtag #LeanInTogether on social media.
