Is Ellen DeGeneres the New Owner of This Grand $15 Million Beverly Hills Residence?

Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi may just be the new owners of a stunning architectural home located in the ever-exclusive Trousdale Estates area of Beverly Hills, California — and if so, this would mark their third major real estate swap-up this year. The sprawling 5,100-square-foot home is located on a discreet cul-de-sac and sits on nearly half an acre of land. It notably overlooks treetops and has views of the Pacific Ocean on a clear day. The house, which was recently sold for $15 million, was originally built back in 1962 for the late actress Marjorie Lord by iconic architect John Elgin Woolf. It was then sold in 2017 following Lord’s passing at age 97, and extensively renovated by the Marmot Radziner architectural firm, with plenty of modern updates to compliment the already-stellar original finishings. (The updates largely included modernizing the kitchen and moving the swimming pool.) The home is comprised of five bedrooms and four-and-a-half bathrooms, and is impressively grand even from the outside, which features a set of extremely tall front doors known to be Woolf’s trademark style. Once inside the front entrance, there is a round foyer topped with a glitzy, tear drop-shaped crystal chandelier that leads onto a cavernous combination living and dining room with an ornate wood-paneled ceiling. The space also features a marble fireplace, an original fixture of the home, and a full wall of floor-to-ceiling glass sliders that open out onto a vast, curved loggia with stunning views.

Elsewhere in the house, the renovated kitchen boasts gold-veined marble countertops that cover a massive center island complete with top-end gas stove range and deep-set kitchen sink, as well as large picture windows that flood the space with natural light (the skylight located just over the kitchen island gives off extra light as well). A cozy, informal dining space is located just off the kitchen, and beyond that, an intimate den with walls of glass sliders also opening out onto the same curved loggia. A bay window on one end of the den provides a quirky wood-paneled space within the otherwise white space. Two of the four guest bedrooms have been converted into other common-area living spaces, including a media lounge and an office, but all four rooms do also have access to their own outdoor space, be it an enclosed patio or garden. The master suite features ideal indoor-outdoor space as well, with a bedroom that has two walls entirely made of glass (one wall is a set of full glass sliders, while the other is a bowed bay window set into yet another paneled niche. The suite also features a fireplace, plenty of closet space and a renovated bathroom with a Roman-style deep soaking tub set just below a large picture window overlooking a private courtyard. Outdoors, the curved loggia is without a doubt the highlight of the backyard space, with a plunge-sized swimming pool and spa tucked between two of four imposing pillars framing the view. A semi-circular terrace beyond the pool is the perfect spot for a fire bowl that juts out over the canyon. Earlier this year, DeGeneres and de Rossi sold two of their properties, including a 13-acre compound in Montecito for $34 million (to Netflix honcho Ted Sarandos) and a historic equestrian ranch, also in Montecito, for $11 million (to Tinder founder Sean Rad). They still own an oceanfront contemporary in Carpinteria, Calif., and a mid-century home in Beverly Hills, which they bought for just under $16 million back in 2015.
