EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — The El Paso Police Department is remembering and honoring officers who paid the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty during National Police Week, which is May 12-18.

A special memorial will be held at 9 a.m. Friday, May 17 at Chuck Heinrich Memorial Park, 11055 Andrew Barcena Dr.

“Since 1786, over 23,000 officers, including 35 from the El Paso Police Department, have made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty,” the Police Department said in a news release.

Additionally, last week El Paso City Council’s proclamation honored Police Week and declared Wednesday, May 15 as El Paso Police Officers Memorial Day.

The El Paso International Airport will also illuminate the landscape lighting in blue throughout the week. The Star on the Mountain is also shining blue during May
