El Paso County will be challenging Colorado House Bills 19-1124 and 23-1100, prohibiting local governments from cooperating with the federal government in immigration matters. Under these bills:

  • Law enforcement, including the El Paso County Sheriff, can not assist the federal government with arresting and detaining undocumented aliens

  • State judicial officials can’t share information with federal immigration officials

  • Local governments can’t enter into agreements with the federal government for immigration enforcement

According to the agenda, the El Paso Board of County Commissioners and the El Paso County Sheriff wish to join in support of Douglas County’s planned litigation on the same issue.
