“We are thrilled to bring this life-saving service to our community,” Insight Veterinary Wellness Center owner Dr. Ken Pawlowski said in a press release. “As veterinarians, we understand the importance of having access to blood products when every second counts. The Community Canine Blood Bank will help us better serve the needs of our patients and provide peace of mind for pet owners.”

Insight Veterinary Wellness Center has an emergency department that utilizes blood transfusions for many cases and conditions.

The veterinary office’s said reasons for the needs for canine blood products are due to emergencies such as immune system attacks of a dog’s red blood cells and blood transfusions for bone marrow disease and other life-saving situations.

The blood bank is open and accepting donations from healthy dogs that meet the necessary requirement such as:

•Dogs must be 1 to 7 years old
•Over 50 pounds
•Up to date on monthly flea, tick and heartworm prevention.
