Eight-vehicle collision on I-77 in Carroll County sends two to the hospital

CARROLL COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — Two people were taken to the hospital after eight vehicles collided on Interstate 77 in Carroll County on Thursday afternoon.

Details remain limited; however, the Hillsville Fire Department said the call came in just before 3 p.m. on April 11, for a crash on I-77 North, at mile marker 14.6, near Exit 14.

Firefighters said when they arrived, they discovered five tractor-trailers, a box truck, and two passenger vehicles with extensive damage.

The department said several units were called to the scene including Virginia State Police, Carroll County deputies, and the Carroll Fire-Rescue crew. Units assisted EMS and helped reduce hazards from multiple fuel leaks.

Two people were taken to the hospital and their condition is currently unknown.

The wreck remains under investigation by state troopers.
