Eclipse 2024: Where to watch the April 8 solar eclipse in, near Baton Rouge

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — On Monday, April 8, people in some parts of the United States will be able to see a total solar eclipse.

A NASA webpage dedicated to the event said it will cross North America, passing over Mexico, the United States and Canada.

In Baton Rouge, a map shows that residents will be able to see a partial eclipse on that day. According to the map, the partial eclipse will start at 12:28:31 p.m. CT.

There are several local viewing party options if you want to watch with others.

Where can I get solar eclipse glasses?

“For those who only experience a partial solar eclipse, the sky will appear slightly darker than it was before the eclipse, depending on how much the Moon blocks the Sun in their location,” according to NASA.

Special glasses will be needed to watch the eclipse, total or partial. Without eye protection, a person risks severe eye injury, experts warn. NASA also recommends using skin protection like sunscreen, hats and protective clothing.

A Baton Rouge man is busy selling solar eclipse glasses through his business Cajun Eclipse Glasses, and has filled more than 2,000 orders.
