BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — Earth Day 2024 falls on Monday, April 22, and there will be plenty of activities throughout the week in, near Baton Rouge.
“Earth Day is an annual celebration that honors the achievements of the environmental movement and raises awareness of the need to protect Earth’s natural resources for future generations,” according to National Geographic.
The annual event takes place on April 22 in the United States. It’s the day the spring equinox takes place in the northern hemisphere, according to National Geographic. This year’s Earth Day theme is Planet vs. Plastics.

Earth Day at the Market
Vendors of the Zachary Farmers Market will share information about Earth Week at the 2024 Earth Day at the Market event.

Earth Day BR 2024
At Earth Day BR 2024, there will be plenty of art activities to celebrate Earth Day, while also supporting the Baton Roots Community Farm.
When: 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 20.

Love the Boot Week
Love the Boot Week will take place throughout Louisiana a few days prior to Earth Day. According to the event’s website, it is “Louisiana’s largest litter cleanup and beautification event.”
When: Saturday, April 20 to Sunday, April 28.
Where: Statewide.
Sprouting into Spring Program
At the Sprouting into Spring Program event in Clinton, eventgoers will be able to learn some tips about gardening as well as the history of Earth Day, according to the event’s website. Those who attend the event can decorate a paper cup planter and plant a flower.
When: 1-2 p.m. Monday, April 22.

BREC’s Bioblitz 2024
BREC’s Bioblitz 2024 will feature two days of activities for all ages. Participants will be able to join local scientists and BREC naturalists on an exploration of the Bluebonnet Swamp Nature Center.
When: Friday, April 26 and Saturday, April 27.
Where: Bluebonnet Swamp Nature Center.
Earth Day with CARC & Friends
Bring the whole entire family to celebrate Earth Day with CARC & Friends at the BREC Evangeline Street Park. According to the event’s website, there will be a free e-waste recycling drive-thru, free activities and education, free refreshments and music.
When: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, April 27.
Where: 4201 Evangeline St.
Earth Day 1M, 5K, 10K, 13.1, 26.2
Take part in a 1M, 5K, 10K, 13.1 or 26.2 virtual run or walk to celebrate Earth Day 2024. According to the event’s website, “the cost of entry is $20 and at least 15% of every entry will be donated to Wild Earth Allies.”
When: Complete race by the end of April.
