Early voting starts April 9

Feb. 29—ANDERSON — The Madison County Election Board has approved early voting locations for the May 7 primary election.

The voting sites remain tentative awaiting approval from the state.

There are seven satellite locations being proposed in addition to the Madison County Government Center.

Early voting starts April 9 and runs through May 6 at the Madison County Government Center from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Early voting at the Government Center will also take place on two Saturdays, April 27 and May 4 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and on Monday, May 6 from 8 a.m. to noon.

Tim Lanane, the Democratic Party representative on the Election Board, asked that the board to consider an early voting center at the fire station on Columbus Avenue.

"It's important to have locations throughout Anderson," Lanane said.

Linda Smith, Madison County clerk, said security of the voting machines was a concern at the location.

She said parking is also a problem and the fire station is not the best location for handicapped voters.

Lanane asked that the Columbus Avenue fire station be included as an early voting center for the general election in November.

Early voting at the satellite locations starts April 29 through May 3 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and at the Crossroads Global Methodist Church on Saturday May 4 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Satellite voting locations include:

* The Madison County 4-H building, Alexandria

* Anderson Zion Baptist Church, 2008 Rev. J.T. Menifee Street.

* Cross Roads Global Methodist Church, 2000 N Scatterfield Road, Anderson.

* Madison Park Church of God, 6607 Providence Drive, Anderson.

* UAW Local 1963, 2840 S. Madison Ave., Anderson.

* Elwood City Hall

* Pendleton Library.
